Ami Sawran, who is Westpoint Farm Vet’s Chelmsford Camelid expert, gave a really good talk and practical workshop on Alpaca Birthing at the Essex Young Farmer’s centre, near Chelmsford.
24 delegates learned about the theory of ‘unpacking’ a cria and then went on to have some highly useful practical training. Aided by Ian Roper, Ami ensured that the delegates were able to insert a stomach tube and deal with dystocia (ie when a cria is incorrectly presented to be delivered).
