Feeding for Fibre Event -3rd Dec 2016

Graham and Jenny MacHarg gave an excellent talk on the successful Fowberry approach to feeding alpacas so as to maximize the health of the alpacas and the quality and quantity of their fibre.  It soon became clear that this is much more than just providing plenty of nutrition in the third trimester (when the secondary follicles are forming).  At Fowberry all img_4166-croppedthe matings are concentrated in June and July so that six months gestation when the primary follicles are forming corresponds to the darkest time of year when nutrition in the grass is at a minimum.  The third trimester then coincides with the spring flush.  Graham uses along fibre histograms as an insight into the health of his alpacas and also ensures adequate vitamin D and phosphorus.

The venue  for the talk, Dry Drayton in Cambridgeshire nar the A14/M11 interchange made for easy access for members and even for a few visitors from out of our region.
