On Friday 29th July, Judges Jay Holland and Liz Barlow, supported by apprentice judge Viv Darcy, judged 122 alpaca fleeces at the first ever EAG fleece show. The judges commented that it was so well organized that no one would have known it was our first show.
The lighting provided at the venue at the East Anglia Alpaca Mill was so good according to the judges that there was no-where to hide—fleeces that might have got away with lack of colour uniformity at another event had to give way to more uniform fleeces. A very high standard was achieved with over a quarter of the entries scoring 70 points or more—potentially worthy of being awarded a champion sash.
The green and gold EAG colours made for striking sashes for the winners and it was great to see the supreme champions won by EAG members with Hilly Ridge Alpacas winning the huacaya and Backyard Alpacas winning the suri.
Visitors to the open day on Saturday enjoyed a talk by Judge Jay Holland, a tour of the Mill, demonstrations on how to skirt fleeces and spin alpaca fibre as well as the chance to see the winning fleeces.
EAG would like to thank all of our sponsors for making this event possible.
